All of this shit about whether or not Beyonce is a feminist is annoying me. 

While I certainly do not worship the ground she walks on like everyone else, I also do not think it is fair to say that she isn’t a feminist. Feminism is a series of movements and beliefs. While you may not believe exactly what she’s doing fulfills your idea of what a feminist should be, that does not make her not a feminist!

For me, I find her Super Bowl performance, for example, to be very empowering, but her GQ spread not so much (since I do not think men’s magazines portray women in an empowering way at all). HOWEVER just because I personally do not find this to be a “feminist” decision, it doesn’t make it fair for me to say that she’s not a feminist. 

And given the portrayal of feminists and false beliefs regarding us in society, I think it’s fantastic that any public figure is willing to identify as one without shame. 

The fact of the matter is, if you want equality for men and women (as Beyonce clearly does), you are perfectly within your rights to call yourself a feminist. End of story.
